Tap Water™: One-Tap Tracker ("Tap Water™", "we") is a water tracking app. This policy explains what the app and this website do with your information. The short version: your water log stays on your phone. The only things that ever leave it are an anonymous bottle count, your referral code if you get one, and, if you turn them on, Friends features.
The app
- No account. You never sign up with an email or password.
- Your data stays on your device. Your refills, goal, settings, streaks and stickers are stored on your phone. Deleting the app deletes them. The exceptions are the community count and Friends, below.
- Community bottle count (on unless you turn it off). To show how many plastic bottles tapwater™ users have skipped together, the app sends one number, your running total of bottles skipped, with a random ID made on your phone. It sends no name, account, location or water log, and we can't tell who a number belongs to. Turn it off in Settings under "Tap, don't toss" and your number is removed from the count. It's stored on our database at Supabase.
- No ads, analytics or tracking. The app contains no advertising or analytics code and does not share data with third parties.
- Notifications are scheduled on your phone. Logging a refill from a notification happens on your phone.
- NFC bottle stickers. When you set up a sticker, the app writes a short link (tapwater://log) to it. Tapping the sticker opens Tap Water™ and logs a refill. The sticker holds no personal information.
- State stickers (optional, off until you turn it on). If you choose to collect state stickers, the app asks your phone for its rough location when you log a refill, and your phone's built-in map service (Apple or Google) turns it into a US state. Only the two-letter state is saved, on your phone. We never receive your location, and the app never checks it in the background.
- Cheers. When you send a cheer, the app makes a link and picture containing the message and the name you type, and you choose where to send it with your phone's share menu. It never passes through us.
- Friends (optional). If you turn on Friends, the app gets an anonymous ID (no email or password) and stores, on our database at Supabase: the first name you type, your friend code, who you've added as friends, the cheers you send and receive, and your phone's notification address so cheers can pop up. Your water log is never sent. If you also turn on "Share my daily progress", your friends can see today's amount and refills, your goal and your streak; turning it off clears them. Cheers are delivered as notifications through Expo's push service. Removing a friend stops cheers both ways. To delete your Friends data, email us from the Help page. See Supabase's privacy policy.
- Health Connect (Android, optional, off until you turn it on). If you turn on Save to Health Connect, Tap Water™ writes each refill you log (the amount and the time) to Health Connect on your phone, and removes it if you undo. Tap Water™ never reads any data from Health Connect, and this information is not sent to us or anyone else.
- Hot day tips (optional, off until you turn it on). If you turn on Hot day tips, once a day the app sends your approximate location (latitude and longitude rounded to about 7 miles, with no name, account or device ID) to Open-Meteo (open-meteo.com) to get today's high temperature. Nothing else is sent, and you can turn it off in Settings.
- Feel check-ins are stored only on your phone and are never sent anywhere.
- Purchases. The Sip Squad subscription is bought through the App Store or Google Play, which handle your payment under their own privacy policies. We use RevenueCat to check whether your subscription is active; it receives an anonymous app user ID and your purchase receipts, not your name, email or water log. See RevenueCat's privacy policy.
Sticker orders on this website
Sticker packs are paid for through Stripe. Stripe collects your payment details, and shares your name, email and shipping address with us so we can send your order and contact you about it. We keep these details only as long as needed for orders, returns and tax records, and never sell them. Stripe's privacy policy is at stripe.com/privacy.
Referral codes are Stripe promotion codes. When you tap "Get my referral code" in the app, we save your code and the first name you typed with your anonymous app ID on our database at Supabase, and create the matching code at Stripe. When a code is used, we can see which code was used on an order.
